MEET THE OWNER & HEAD CHEF
About Me:
Hi! Let me introduce myself here, I’m Averie Riel, the owner and chef of The Local Farm Table. I graduated from Paul Smith's College with a bachelors in Culinary Arts Food Service Management after attending a 2 year culinary arts program in high school. A large part of my cooking background is fine dining & scratch cooking with 10 years of experience in the field. I was born and raised in the Rochester area but have lived in many state which has helped grow my knowledge for cooking in an array of restaurants throughout the years. I've cooked in New Jersey, Delaware, Colorado, Cape Cod and finally back to my home roots of Walworth.
Over the past few years I've realized restaurants have really stepped away from looking for local vendors or products. That's something I really wanted to get back to in the kitchen, using locally grown and sourced ingredients and products. Being back here for the last 3 years I've truly realized there are so many farmers markets, farm stands, local CSAs and butcher shops in our surrounding areas.
Taking the step to start my own private chef business, I am able to really take the time to speak with farmers and local small businesses and learn more about what is grown and produced right here in our backyard. Being able to be more strict on the products I use for each individual customer. Having the ability to create changing seasonal menus and creating different menus for each and everyone of my clients that best suit their needs and their guests needs as well. Looking at food, it isn't just about eating something because you are hungry. It's really meant to bring everyone around the same table and take a step away from our busy lives and be able to catch up on life, or just reconnecting with long distance family or friends that may be from out of town. Choosing to have my business as The Local Farm Table, I want to not only bring families and friends around a table, but to bring all different farms and create dishes using an array of the different produce and products they grow and offer. Really just bringing the whole community and businesses around the area together on a plate. I have been partnering up with many farms, and will be at the local farmers market in Walworth all summer featuring a special vender each week with sample items to taste and recipes to take. The recipes will be made from the produce they grow and sell.
